As we continue our battles with ‘Smaug’ or something that sounds the same but as much perilous, our dev team at MMR ( the guys who do something) has come up with some innovative features which not only our existing user-base will find useful but also help us acquire few more.
Feature 17.4.5: Import your collection of movies & TV shows
Don’t we love to keep a collection of movies & TV shows on our HDD, a goto folder which houses our favorites. This folder also offers us bragging rights of our Movie Quotient, a testimony for our passion of watching the best of the entertainment industry. At MyMovieRack we felt that we should help our users organise the same, maintain an ‘online diary’ of sorts through the import feature. Registered users on MMR can now import the list(metadata) of all films, TV shows or media lying on their HDD through a simple click. You can follow the steps in below video to get more idea.
This is something cool which has made possible by some complex engineering, given the scale and reliability benchmarks we intend to support.
Once you are done, takes just few seconds, you can:
- Add the imported list of movies to your collection or the ‘online diary’ which stores your conquests!
- Add to watchlist to get latest updates: trailer release, new episodes, sequel etc. for the franchise/season
- Rate, Review or mark as favourite the movies you found interesting and wish to voice your opinion
- Browse your collection by #Feelings
- Share your collection on Social and get the bragging rights! (upcoming)

Feature 17.4.6: More from the Director and the Cast
There are cases when you land up on a movie but can’t decide how it would be. In such cases, there can be a lot of people who don’t know the director’s name but they can quickly relate about a movie if they have watched other of his/her movies, better his/her fan. It’s a simple yet effective way to discover more movies, yet we don’t find it more often on the internet. This and similar other use cases led us to design this new addition to out Movie Title Page.
Moreover, there are cases of serendipity where we run into gem of movies and TV shows. If you are willing to binge on a complete filmography, this feature can help you start your journey.
As we move ahead…
Our next step is to provide more value to our user base and make them ‘stick’ to our platform. Given our recently acquired success with Machine Learning team, we are getting a step closer day by day towards realising our Movie recommendation bot or more of a close friend who understands you and your tastes, to recommend you stuff to watch, especially when you are caught up inside your house to avoid ‘Smaug’s breath :P
